Bedford, Cople and other surrounding villages are fortunate to have a reliable weekly household rubbish and recycling collection plus nearby waste sites (Tidy Tips) which are clean, easy to use and at no additional cost. These sites allow you to deposit your waste items according to type, eg paper, metal, wood, electrical etc which permits efficient handling and recycling. Please use them.
Bottle and paper banks are in the Five Bells car park. Please respect the local residents by not depositing bottles at unsociable hours. There are also bottle and clothing banks at the local supermarkets.
A large, modern, clean, eay-to-use recycling and waste site is in Barkers Lane, Bedford. Another one can be found just past Sainsburys in Biggleswade.
Bedford has several charity shops that are pleased to accept donations of books, clothes in good condition and other household items. Using the local telephone Yellow pages locate those you wish to support to find out what, when and where to deliver it.
Also keep a watch for local fetes who often appreciate donations for their stalls and raffles.
Cople Lower School is collecting empty laser printer/photocopier toner cartridges, ink jet cartridges and unwanted mobile phones.
Often these items should not be thrown away with normal household rubbish as they can pollute the environment. But they can be recycled. Not only is this environmentally friendly but with sufficient quantities can raise money for new school equipment.
Cople Lower School is collecting these items on an experimental basis. Please do bring your unwanted cartridges and phones to the school.
If you wish to check first that the school is still running this scheme please phone the school on 01234 838827
Weekly household rubbish collections are made each Tuesday. Alternate weeks allows for collection of garden waste and paper for recycling. During some winter months the garden waste collection may be suspended.
The council will make special collections on request. There is a charge for this service
Some charities will collect useful, unwanted furniture that can be re-used or sold for their charity. You will need to contact them to find out if they currently need the type of item you wish to donate.
Twice a year the council "bin men" visit the village and wait for residents to bring their waste to the skip lorries. This is usually in spring and autumn. Once announced the date and times are advertised around the village, in the Parish Magazine and in this web site.
