Five Bells Public House
The British "pub" (public house, to an American it might seem to be the equivalent of a bar) is, traditionally, more of a social meeting place. A good pub is often as much a central focal point of a village as is the Church.
The 400 years old Five Bells is in the centre of the village, opposite the Church, and is tied to the Greene King brewery of Bury St. Edmunds. The Five Bells derived its name from when the Church had 5 bells. Although the Church now has 6 bells the pub has kept its original name.
The Five Bells is an attractive old building with a bar, dining room, patio and garden. It serves cask ales and offers home cooked country catering.
Eamonn and Julia Dowling took over the Five Bells in June 2011. They are continuing the reputation for popular good pub food. The patio and restaurant room have been refurbished. There are more plans to further improve the pub, including its large garden.
