Local Shops

Although Cople has no shop of its own the Willington Post Office sells a useful range of basic food, bread, wine, some good-looking fruit and vegetables and newspapers. We urge residents to support the Post Office whenever possible.

Also March 2008 has seen the opening of a new shop in Cardington, Summerhill Farm Shop. Summerhill sell salads, vegetables, bread, fruit, meat, cheese and other delicatessen items sourced locally where possible. We wish them every sucess.

Freaky Eaters and BBC 3

BBC 3’s ‘Freaky Eaters’ are looking for people to take part in a new series of programmes

  • Do you have an unusual eating problem which controls your life?
  • Do you find many foods difficult to eat?
  • Do your friends and family think your eating habits are weird?
  • Are you at the end of your tether and desperate to sort out your diet?

Freaky Eaters is a series about people who live with unusual eating habits. Each week the resident nutritionist and psychologist offers advice and support to help individuals tackle their eating problems.

If you or someone you know would like to take part, please call: 020 7907 0899 or email: freaky.eaters@betty.co.uk

Mélange is our new name for the link (see right hand side panel) to the general page of miscellany. This includes a new sub-section Village Residents to let those residents that have something interesting to say to tell their story. We kick off with some interesting input from the writer Shela Porter who has been living happily in Cople since 1995. Shela has also submitted a poem, New Wine, for this page.

At the top of this page is a link to the new Information page. This page will build to a one stop place for all those phone numbers, web links and facts relevant to Cople; your local councilor, police officer, recycling locations etc.

On the What's On page, which is for special one-off events, there is now a link to Other Local Events. If you have a regular event, eg a monthly group meeting, let me know and I will add it to this page.

Elevated Golf Course

Controversy surrounds the building of the golf course which is now being considered as "waste management" by the Bedfordshire County Council.

On 24th January 2008 the council met to consider the planning application to extend the land fill operation by a further three years from October 2008. The council has approved only a two year extension and which includes conditions that address many of the concerns of Cople, Cardington and Willington residents.
