SUMMARY:Gin Night - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Friends of All Saints Church\, Cople – Gin Night \n  \nSadly\, we have had to cancel the Gin Night scheduled for Saturday 22nd October.\nUnfortunately\, we sold very few tickets\, which meant the event could not go ahead. The events we organise are to raise money for the upkeep of All Saints Church Cople\, but as with every occasion like the one planned\, there are expenses. The ticket sales we had with a little over a week to go would not have covered the costs we would have incurred\, so we had no option but to cancel.\nThank you to those who did commit to tickets\, and we apologise for the cancellation.\nThe next event we are planning is the Safari Supper at the end of February\, for which more details will be provided in  the near future\nMiles Tetley\n  \n  \nThe Friends are pleased to announce that another gin night will be held on the evening of Saturday 22nd October in the Village Hall. \n  \nTicket price is £17.50 per person\, which will include your first gin or 2 soft drinks\, plus the food we will be serving. Feel free to bring along crisps or nuts etc. and remember to tell us when you purchase your tickets if you have any dietary requirements. \nTickets must be paid for before the evening\, and the easiest to pay for them is by bank transfer. \n  \nThe Friends bank account details are: \nBank: Lloyds \nSort Code: 309066 \nAccount No: 03064452 \nAccount Name: “The Friends of All Saints Church Cople” \n  \nDoors open at 19:30\, and Charlie Porter will be giving a talk revolving around Cople in the first half of the evening\, with music in the second half. Seating will be communal as last year\, so there is no need to make up a party – a great way to get to know people. \nThere will be a bar selling wine\, beer\, cider\, and soft drinks if you need a break from gin or it is not your tipple of choice. \nThere will be a raffle\, so prize donations will be gratefully received\, and at the end of the evening part used bottles of gin will be auctioned. \n  \nIf you wish to purchase tickets\, please contact: \nMiles Tetley – 07738 999340 or milotetley@gmail.com \nCharlie Porter – 07790 335284 \n  \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \n

SUMMARY:Barn Dance
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Cople Church \nAfter the disappointment of having to cancel the Safari Supper in February\, we are glad to announce that the Barn Dance is planned to go ahead. The last two years have taught us that we cannot say with absolute certainty\, but the intention is to hold it at the usual location\, Oak Farm\, Northill on Saturday 25th June. The band\, Kelly’s Eye\, has been booked\, so all we need is people to come and dance – or just eat the barbecued pork and drink from the bar. So\, start practising your Dosey Does\, Promenading and Stripping the Willow! \nThis is a very popular event\, so I would suggest you get your ticket requests in early. Tickets will be priced at £17.50 and will go on sale immediately. We ask that tickets be paid for at time of request or at least before the night\, and to make that easier the bank details for bank transfer payment can be found below. Remember to tell us of any dietary requirements. \nWe are looking at other events for later in the year – a repeat of the successful and popular Gin Night is a possibility – albeit tweaked\, and there is the threat of another Panto. Oh yes there is! \nThese events are run to raise funds for the upkeep of All Saints Church in Cople. With two years of expenditure\, with very little ability to raise funds\, our bank balance is at its lowest since 2004\, and the Friends charity was founded in 2003. \nWe are lucky that we have some people who make regular or one-off donations during the year which helps\, so if you would like to make a donation\, the bank details are as follows: \nBank: Lloyds \nSort Code: 309066 \nAccount No: 03064452 \nAccount Name: “The Friends of All Saints Church Cople” \nAnd if you want to do gift aid\, please contact Sally Gilpin\, our treasurer on sally@sjtax.co.uk

SUMMARY:Gin Night
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Cople Church \n \nWe are pleased to announce that the much-touted Gin Event will finally take place on Saturday 27th November in the Village Hall at 7:00pm. \nThe ticket price is £15\, for which you will get: \nA Gin glass to take away – so we do not have to do any washing up! \nA token for 1 Gin or 2 soft drinks. \nFood (pate\, cheese\, cold meats\, bread\, fruit). Feel free to bring crisps\, etc. \nTonics\, ice\, and additions (lime\, lemon\, etc.). \nA table quiz. \nPhilla will serenade you. \nFurther gin tokens can be purchased at £10 for 3 or £4 for 1 – there will be many different gins to try. \nSeating will be communal\, so there is no need to be part of or make up a party. \nPlus! Win the coveted Cople Flavoured Gin Trophy! \nThere will be a competition to identify the best flavoured gin made by yourselves. Entry is free\, simply requiring a 25ml bottle of your gin\, just showing the flavour (sloe\, blackberry\, orange\, rhubarb\, strawberry\, chilli\, etc.) You can enter more than one flavour. \nThe cost of being a judge is £10 payable on the night – you will have to taste the gins (an onerous task) and identify your top 3. The voting mechanism will be explained on the night. \nThere will be a bar selling wine\, beer\, cider\, and soft drinks if you need a break from gin or it is not you tipple of choice. \nThere will be a raffle\, so prize donations will be gratefully received\, and at the end of the evening part used bottles of gin will be auctioned. \nIf you wish to purchase tickets\, please contact: \nMiles Tetley – 07738 999340 or milotetley@gmail.com \nCharlie Porter – 07790 335284 \nPlease note\, The Friends can now take card payments. \nThe Friends of Cople Church \nThe Friends raise money for the upkeep of the historic Grade 1 listed All Saints Church in Cople and many of you will have attended events we have run – safari supper\, barn dance\, pantomimes\, talks\, quizzes\, etc. \nThe fund-raising committee do all the organising\, but often we are short of helpers on the night to serve food or drink\, be on the door to check tickets etc.\, or simply help set up and clear up. \nSo\, we are looking for volunteers to help at events. The benefit of doing this is that helpers get free entry – you can still enjoy the event and eat and drink. If you are new to the village\, it is a great way to meet people. \nSo\, if you wish to get involved in this way please contact: \nMiles Tetley – 07738 999340 or milotetley@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Remembrance Service
DESCRIPTION:A joint service for Cople and Willington Parishes \nThe village Remembrance Services will give all of us an opportunity to come together to honour those who died so that we might live in freedom. \nRemembering with thankfulness is at the heart of the Christian faith\, and at the heart of our worship\, as week by week we come together to remember in bread and wine the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus’ willing sacrifice of himself on the cross for the sake of others is\, for Christian believers\, the ultimate expression of the self-giving love at the heart of God. One man dies\, that many might live in freedom. One man dies\, to bring life to others. \n“Do this in remembrance of me.” \nSo in this season of Remembrance\, as we remember with candles\, poppies\, or bread and wine\, may we all take time to pause\, reflect\, and be  thankful. \nRevd Fiona Gibson

SUMMARY:Queen Anne’s Summerhouse
DESCRIPTION:Heritage Open Days\n \nThe Warren\, Shuttleworth Estate\, Old Warden\, Biggleswade\, Bedfordshire\, SG18 9EB \nQueen Anne’s Summerhouse is an early 18th-century brick folly on the Shuttleworth Estate in the picturesque model village of Old Warden. The summerhouse has exceptionally fine rubbed brickwork and a roof terrace with fine views \nThis satisfyingly foursquare folly has a date stone of 1878 and the clasped gauntlet of the Shuttleworth family – but its exceptionally fine rubbed brickwork is far too good for the 1870s\, Its name is the clue to its origins: in 1712\, Queen Anne knighted Samuel Ongley\, who owned the estate at Old Warden\, an event that provides the most likely explanation for the building of this folly. Queen Anne’s Summerhouse earned its date stone when it was renovated in 1878 by Joseph Shuttleworth\, who added its pale terracotta roof balustrade. It then served as a summerhouse through the estate’s golden Edwardian years\, but became derelict after the Second World War. \nThe Landmark Trust has restored it for holidays\, an elegant bedsit with kitchen\, dining\, sitting and sleeping all in the main ground floor room and a memorable bathroom in the vaulted brick basement. On the roof\, two of the corner turrets hide tiny pavilions. \nFree admission and leaflets on the building’s history.

SUMMARY:Swiss Garden and Shuttleworth House
DESCRIPTION:Heritage Open Day\n \nThe Swiss Garden and The House at Shuttleworth\nShuttleworth\, Old Warden Aerodrome\, Old Warden\, Biggleswade\, Bedfordshire\, SG18 9EP \n\nThe Swiss Garden and Shuttleworth House are proud to be a part of this year’s Heritage Open Days\, England’s biggest heritage festival involving 40\,000 volunteers. \n\nThis national event celebrates our fantastic history\, architecture and culture; offering people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are free to explore. \nThe enchanting Swiss Garden was created in the ‘Swiss Picturesque’ style for the 3rd Lord Ongley in the early C19 and reopened in July 2014 after a major HLF-funded restoration. Serpentine paths lead to cleverly contrived vistas\, many of which focus on the thatched Swiss Cottage. Beautiful wrought-iron bridges\, ponds\, sweeping lawns and the magnificent Pulhamite-lined Grotto & Fernery have all been given a new lease of life by this landmark project. \nWithin The House there are many reminders of the wealth of the Shuttleworth family with wooden panelling\, ormolu mirrors\, fine Gillow of Lancaster furniture and oil paintings by significant artists collected by the Shuttleworth family. \nThe Swiss Garden is pleased to offer free admission and timed tours\, including the Shuttleworth House\, on Friday 7th September as part of the 2018 Heritage Open Days event. \nSwiss Garden Tours:\n11.30-12.30\n14.30-15.30 \nThe House Tours:\n10.00-11.00\n13.00-14.00 \nFor tour bookings please call 01767 627933 or email enquiries@shuttleworth.org. \nOpening Times
