DESCRIPTION:Warden Abbey Vineyard Open Day and Wine Sale\n \nEntrance £3 adults\, children under 16 free\, free parking\nBooking not necessary – just turn up!\n(Additional charges for conducted tours\, history talks and wine school)  \nDiscover the hidden secrets of the medieval vineyard and abbey\, why and how the monks made wine\, the re-planting of the modern vineyard\, and how we care for the vines all year round.  Follow our self-guided tour around the vineyard and browse the growing number of  local food and craft stalls\, maybe with a glass of one of our chilled wines in hand! \nThere will also be guided vineyard tours\, our “pop up” wine school with Master of Wine\, Derek Smedley\, Animal Edge petting zoo\, face-painting\, plant and vine sales\, our popular herb activities for children\, Morris Dancing\, award-winning BBQ and other refreshments. \nThis year’s Open Day will feature a copy of the first ever reconstruction painting of Warden Abbey\, which shows how the abbey\, which dominated the local landcsape\, might have looked around 650 years ago. Join one of the history talks to find out how the reconstruction was pieced together. There are also new displays showing the results of the 2017 “Time Team” style geophysical survey. \nThere’ll be free tasters of the wine and our fizz – try before you buy! \nBBQ lovers are in for a treat. World Food Championship winners ‘The Wonky Donkeys’ will be heading up the BBQ again. They’re quite simply the best\, having racked up many international and national medals. \nThe vineyard\, near Old Warden\, is now run as a community and education project by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity and cared for year round by volunteers. The Open Day is organised by the Friends of Warden Abbey Vineyard. DESCRIPTION:The Community Vineyard\nOpen Day and Wine Sale\nBedfordshire’s oldest vineyard is 30 this year!  Discover the hidden secrets of the medieval vineyard and abbey\, why and how the monks made wine\, and how we care for the vines all year round. \nThere will be tours\, wine tastings\, (see timetable below) other local food stalls\, a “pop up” wine school\, BBQ and other refreshments. \nWarden Abbey wines will be available to taste & buy (cash and cheques only please). \nAa rare opportunity to visit both the vineyard and the historic Warden Abbey building which is being thrown open by the Landmark Trust. \nLocated near Old Warden\, the vineyard is now run by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity as a community vineyard which is cared for all year round by volunteers and works with other local charities and schools. The Open Day is organised by the Friends of Warden Abbey Vineyard and is our main fundraiser of the year\, to raise funding to keep this historic vineyard for the community. \nBBQ lovers are in for a treat! World Food Championship winners ‘The Wonky Donkeys’ will be heading up the BBQ. These guys are quite simply the best\, having racked up the following accolades: \n– 3 x World Food Championships ( Las Vegas 2013\, 2014 ; Orlando 2015)\n– 2 x UK Chilli Champions ( 2013 & 2014)- 2014 World Chilli Champions\n– Leading UK BBQ Championship team\n– International Qualifiers for the World Food Championships 2016 in Alabama in the premier category of BBQ \nOpen 11 am to 4 pm.
