The British “pub” (public house, to an American it might seem to be the equivalent of a bar) is, traditionally, more of a social meeting place. A good pub is often as much a central focal point of a village as is the Church.
The 400 years old Five Bells is in the centre of the village, opposite the Church. The Five Bells derived its name from when the Church had 5 bells. Although the Church now has 6 bells the pub has kept its original name.
The Five Bells is an attractive old building with a bar, dining room, patio and garden.
Around the end of 2014 the Five Bells was acquired by Hawthorne Leisure from Greene King.
